Manage Emotions [YOLO Chapter 1]

This blog is a 10 part series that outlines my book! This first part will be about how I learned to manage emotions.

After a break up managing emotions can be extremely difficult. In todays age if we are thinking about an ex we may fire up Instagram to see what they are up to.

When I experienced my first major break up I reminisced about the past and would wonder "Does he ever think about me? Was what we had together significant?" At this point, I felt upset, hurt and drained.

I was at rock bottom, I felt ashamed and hurt beyond belief

When I finally decided enough was enough, I turned to mindfulness, neuroscience, metaphysics, the law of attraction, philosophy, all kinds of self-help, trying to find a way to let go, move on, and turn that energy into something positive!

I realized I have to love myself first and become the best me I can be! In order to become my best me I asked my self the following questions.

What would it take to be the happiest that I can be, from within?

What would it take to create the sense of love, safety, meaning, and confidence within myself so that I am living and breathing it?

I began by focusing on my emotions. I wanted to learn how to manage stress efficiently. I vowed to NEVER be in a position where my emotions took control again! I learned how to comprehend what loving myself meant, instead of relying on others for approval.

I learned to take my imaginations and dreams more seriously. I was finally able to understand that the only person I could count on to consistently create a life that I wanted for myself was me! I was finallyy able to manage my emotions.

4 Steps To Manage Emotions

The 4 steps to manage emotions are:

  1. Say Yes To What Lights You Up
  2. Say Yes To Your Why
  3. Say YES To Being Vulnerable And Authentically You
  4. Say YES To Impact And Co- Creation

If you follow these steps to manage emotions!

Say YES To What Lights You Up

When learning how to get over my break up and how managing emotions was something I had to be better at.

Your journey to freedom begins with the freedom of emotion. You have to learn how to manage emotions.

Your emotions can either be something to be ashamed of or something to be proud of. One of the ways I manage my emotions is by having 3 commitments I live my life by.

My top three commitments are freedom, fun, and inspired connection.

Say YES To Your Why

What motivates you to live your best life? Is it imagination, traveling alone or just life experiences in general.

Imagination (Write the speech your best friend is giving at your funeral, about you and the difference you’ve made.)

2. Solo travel. You find out more about yourself, how you respond to uncertainty and find a whole new level of resourcefulness and confidence.

During this time, ponder what is important to you now and what you want out of this part of your life

3. Perspective-shifting experiences (Transformational events or retreats. Remember to journal about what it has brought up for you in terms of your mission or purpose.)

Say YES To Being Vulnerable And Authentically You

Freedom from emotion means that you are able to forgive, let go, move on from things in the past that are not going to serve you in this next chapter of your journey. This is what managing emotions can do. These feelings include anything that makes you feel less than empowered: guilt, shame, betrayal.

Ask yourself: What would it take to release all emotions to live my best life?

Say YES To Impact And Co- Creation

How does impact play a role in your life?

How do you want to impact your own life and the lives around you?

Even though I was already helping people one on one and in groups and workshops internationally, I wanted to feel even more purpose from the work I did.

I love changing lives and contributing in a unique way; it lit me up so much being with my clients and helping them achieve their YOLO Lives. When their lives changed, when they made some big, bold moves, when they tried something new, or when they went through hard times and were at the brink of giving up, I was there with them. I love my clients so much and am so thrilled and happy, and want to see them win in the long run.
